The upcoming November workshop will focus on Beadwork with Katrina Mitten!
Workshop Dates: Monday, November 14 – Friday, November 18, 2011
Workshop Times: 5:30pm – 8pm held at theZiibiwingCenter
Katrina Mitten will lead the workshop and provide instruction on traditional and contemporary beading techniques. The 5-day Adult Beadwork Workshop is $35 per participant. Space is limited. All participants must register in advance and be 18 years or older.
Katrina Mitten is a member of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma. She has worked for over thirty years in bead embroidery traditions while transforming her creations into contemporary wearable art. Through the use of semi-precious stones and the inspiration from their form and colors she creates one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. She also beads traditional pieces including bags, cradleboards, and jackets. It has been said that if something is lying around long enough she will bead it.

The Artist-in-Residence Mentoring Program was created in 2007 to provide Woodland Indian Art education, technique, tools, and cultural instruction to the next generation. There are four workshops scheduled for 2011 including Fiber Arts, Classic Animation Cel Painting, Beadwork, and Pottery. The programs include activities for classroom groups at theZiibiwingCenterfrom 9am – 1:30pm and adult workshops in the evenings from 5:30pm – 8pm. Both student and adult programs must be booked in advance.
